Background

In 2012, work began on the nursing and care facility, under the project name Senioren. The first step was to prepare the documentation for a partnering procurement process. This included several evaluation criteria, such as presentations and interviews. After the selection process, Skanska was chosen as the partnering contractor. 

At first, I was not expected to continue working on the project after the procurement phase. However, this changed early on, and I became involved in Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the project (out of three phases). Together with the project team, we did several site visits in Västra Götaland and Stockholm County. These visits helped the team decide on the final design and execution of the care facility in Vimmerby. The building includes a sensory experience room with a sand beach for the residents. The outdoor courtyards are designed to be easily accessible, allowing residents to go outside, sit in the garden, and experience calming water features.

Challanges

Working in a partnering model that was new to the client was both challenging and educational. I was not involved in Phase 3 (procurement of subcontractors and construction phase) due to parental leave.
